Day 8 : Trip to Baliwag and San Miguel

This day was a long day for me. Today, Direk Arman, Nikko and Riya did the documentation of the buntal hats and the works of Nanay Luz.

Direk Arman and I fetched Nanay Luz and we headed to Baliwag to meet the CCP people. We went straight to the house of Rosie Bautista at Milflora Subdivision in Baliwag. Tita Rosie is the manager-owner of Baliwag Buntal Enterprises, that popularizes buntal hat industry in Baliwag. She said she took on this industry from the couple who adopted her (Mr & Mrs Joaquin Billones). Her number one client is from Australia who orders 1,000 pieces monthly. And of course, I bought one for myself : a P450 buntal hat that I proudly wore the whole day.

After that, we went to make courtesy call to the mayor of Baliwag. Then we went to the old house of Nanay Luz in San Miguel, Bulacan. We were greeted with sumptuous lunch, prepared by the family of Nanay Luz.

Then the interview-video documenting was done at the beautiful old house of Oscar, just across Nanay Luz' house. Nanay Luz first demonstrated how to make the decorated minatamis. I happily tried one myself. It is not very difficult, but you need trained hands when you make the designs. Patience is the virtue.

Shen then demonstrated how to make the pambalot sa pastillas.

After the video-documentation, we went to buy pastillas.
