Day 14 – Visit to Buddy Ching’s Studio and Hagonoy

I visited the studio of Buddy Ching, a Malolos visual artist. I first met Buddy in September 2005, when we both performed during the 4th Philippine International Performance Art Festival (PIPAF) in Manila.
Buddy is a member of the Bahaghari, a group of visual artists in Malolos. I learned from him that there are about 15 visual arts groups all over Bulacan.

Buddy’s works, according to him, are experimental. If I am not mistaken, he has done 5 solo exhibitions already at the CCP. I saw many of his new works in his studio. Buddy is currently preparing for an art talk and exhibit in Singapore (November 30) and Kuala Lumpur (December 1-3), respectively.

Next visit was San Pedro High School, the home of Hiyas ng Hagonoenyo Folkloric Group in San Pedro, Hagonoy, Bulacan. I met the Choreographer and Adviser of the group, Mr Ferdie Aldaba. I also had casual interview with two of the dancers of the group.

The group’s dance suites include Filipiniana, Rural, Cordillera, Pagan and Muslim Dances. Mr Aldaba told me that they just recently finished shooting some of their dancs for an instructional video with Aquarius Records.

I offered to do a workshop session on Subanen dances on November 30, 2006.
